Born 2 August 1971) is a British--Israeli mathematician and also an associate professor of math in the Einstein Institute of Mathematics, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, plus a researcher at knot concept and algebraic topology. Outside academia, she's best known for being a kid prodigy in math .
Historical life
Ruth Lawrence was created in Brighton, England. Her parents, Harry Lawrence and Sylvia Greybourne, were equally computer consultants. When Lawrence was , her dad gave up his job so he could teach her at home.
Instruction
In age nine, Lawrence acquired an O-level in math, putting a new era record (afterwards defeated in 2001 when Arran Fernandez successfully sat GCSE math aged five). [two ] Additionally at age nine she attained a Grade A at A-level pure math .
Back in 1981 Lawrence passed the Oxford University entry examination in math, linking St Hugh's College in 1983 at Age twelve.
In Oxford, her dad continued to become actively involved in her schooling, accompanying her into all of lectures and some tutorials. Lawrence finished her bachelor's level in a couple of decades, rather than the normal three, and graduated in 1985 at age 13 using a starred and particular commendation. Attracting substantial media attention, she became the youngest British person to acquire a first-class level, and also the youngest to graduate in the University of Oxford in contemporary times.
Lawrence followed her initial level with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1986 and also a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) diploma in mathematics at Oxford in June 1989, at age 17. Her doctoral thesis name was Homology representations of braid groups along with her thesis advisor has been Sir Michael Atiyah.
Academic career
Lawrence and her dad moved to America to get Lawrence's initial academic article, which had been at Harvard University, where she became a junior fellow in 1990 at age 19. Back in 1993, she transferred into the University of Michigan, in which she became an associate professor with tenure in 1997.
Back in 1998, Lawrence wed Ariyeh Neimark, a mathematician in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, also adopted the title Ruth Lawrence-Neimark. The next year, she moved to Israel with him took up the post of associate professor of math in the Einstein Institute of Mathematics, part of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Research
Lawrence's 1990 paper,"Homological representations of this Hecke algebra", in Communications in Mathematical Physics, released, among other things, particular publication linear representations of the braid group -- called Lawrence--Krammer representations. In newspapers published in 2000 and 2001, Daan Krammer and Stephen Bigelow established the faithfulness of both Lawrence's representation. This effect goes from the term"Cable bands are linear"
