He published significant roles in law and history, but also an essential body of academic documents and epistles. He authored several participating autobiographies and European travelogues, a significant Utopian book that were the instant European succes, intriguing satires that encouraged women's schooling and career, along with a high number of comedies. These comedies procured Holberg's standing as the most important playwright in Scandinavia earlier Ibsen and Strindberg. Throughout his extensive oeuvre, but particularly through his plays, Holberg had a critical influence on the creation of contemporary Danish as a literary language, a thing which was a self-conscious attempt on the part of a person who saw himself as a teacher of the general public. Regardless of his modern effect at home and overseas and his continuing recognition in Scandinavia, he remains little understood in the broader world of enlightenment research. It's the goal of this quantity to rekindle Holberg as a significant figure from a small corner of the Enlightenment world by introducing the entire assortment of his work and offering it a European context.
