Lancelot Andrewes It is so no surprise to find him not only a devout writer but a learned and eloquent one, a master of English prose, also found out of Latin, Greek, Greek and other languages. His sermons were popular in his day, however, are perhaps too academic for most contemporary readers. He prepared for his personal use a manuscript notebook of Private Prayers, which was published after his death. The material has been apparently meant, to not be read, but to be a guide and stimulus to devout meditation.
